I tried to sign up using my email address, but the system won't accept it. Why?
If your email address isn't being accepted, it could be that it is already linked to an existing account. For security purposes, we do not allow an email address to be used on more than one BetterDate.com account. If you think you might have used your email address on a past BetterDate.com account, you can click here to retrieve your username and password. An email containing your login information will be sent to that email address. If that is not the case please contact us and we'll help you get it sorted out.
I can't sign in to my account. Why?
Sorry you're having trouble. If you received an error message when trying to login to the site please review the following troubleshooting tips:
  • If you are copying and pasting your password into the password field, be sure you did not copy a blank "space" before or after the password
  • If you feel your username or password is incorrect, please use the Forgot Username? or Forgot Password? links on the login page.
  • Has your account been blocked? For your protection, we take security very seriously. Unfortunately, that means that members could be mistakenly blocked and/or refunded. If you're a paid subscriber, check your financial account to see if we've returned your subscription charge. If a mistake has been made on our part, please contact us immediately by clicking here.

How do I change my username, email address or password?
You can update your username, email address, password, and many other fields by accessing the My Account Details page under your Edit Profile page of the left navigation. To locate and edit information on the list above, simply follow these steps:
  1. Sign in with your username and password
  2. Click on the Edit Profile link in the left navigation
  3. Make your updates and click on Continue
  4. To update basic account info click My Account Details
  5. Make your updates and click on Continue
How do I delete my account?
We're sorry to see you go. To close your account, please visit the My Account Details page. Note that deleting your account is permanent and irreversible, so make sure you know what you're doing! If you'd only like to temporarily deactivate your account, don't delete it!

Do coupons expire?
Yes, most of the time the promotional coupons we distribute will have an expiration date associated with them. If you try to apply a coupon when upgrading your subscription and it doesn't work, the coupon may have expired. I received a coupon for a free subscription. Does that mean free for life? The terms and conditions of each coupon are set independently, but many of our coupons are for lifetime free subscriptions. Enjoy!
My coupon isn't working. What do I do?
We're not trying to pull the wool over your eyes. Contact us and we'll help you figure out if the coupon is expired, entered incorrectly, or if there is another issue at foot.

How do I create a profile on BetterDate.com?
Our goal is to make the signup process as painless as possible. Creating a profile is free, too! If you're already logged in you've already finished the first step of the profile creation process. To continue filling in your profile, login to BetterDate.com and click the Edit Profile link in the left navigation. Make your changes and click Next when you're done. If you're not logged in and want to create a profile, please click here to create an account now.
How do I edit or update my profile?
Making changes to your profile is easy. Follow these steps to make as many changes as often as you want:
  1. Sign in with your username and password
  2. Click on the Edit Profile link in the left navigation
  3. Make your updates and click Next
How can I make my profile private?
Want to hide your profile from people who aren't signed in? This option is available on the Account tab in Settings. Check the box that says "Make my profile viewable only to other members who are signed in." Follow these steps to make as many changes as often as you want:
  1. Sign in with your username and password
  2. Click on the Edit Profile link in the left navigation
  3. Click on My Account Details
  4. Select "Make My Account Private" and click Next
How do I view my own profile?
To see your own profile, login and click My Profile in the top navigation. It should appear to the far right.
Why should I complete my profile?
Many reasons. Your profile lets people know that you are single and available! A full profile lets others know more about you, you're actively participating in the community, and you're worth writing to. If someone looks at your profile and doesn't see much, they will probably move on to the next person. The old adage "You get out what you put in" applies here. If you take the time to make your profile interesting and post great photos you'll get more responses from other members. It is up to you!
Will my profile stay online after I end my subscription?
Yes, if you end your BetterDate.com subscription your profile stays up on the site for free. You can keep it up as long as you want and become a Subscription Member again when you see someone you'd like to connect with.
What are the approval guidelines for profiles?
The BetterDate.com Customer Care & Support team reviews every profile. We may reject member profiles that contain any of the following:
  • Abusive language of any kind, including profanity, vulgarity, racism, illegal activity, etc.
  • Any direct contact information, including email addresses, URLs, instant messenger IDs, phone numbers, full names, addresses, etc.
  • Unauthorized use of copyrighted or trademarked material
  • Business or political advertisements or solicitations
  • Foreign languages (To effectively monitor profiles, we require our members to write in English.)
  • Material that exploits or solicits personal information from individuals under the age of 18
  • Overt solicitation for sex or descriptions of sexual activity, anatomy, etc.
  • Solicitation of multiple or additional partners
We do not accept content from:
  • Incarcerated individuals
  • Individuals under the age of 47
How can I increase the number of responses I get?
Communication is the heart and soul of BetterDate.com. We know that it can be frustrating if you don't get a lot of expressed interested or messages from other members. Here are some tips to help increase the amount of attention you get:
  • Add at least 3 high quality photos of yourself to your profile. Research shows the presence of photos has a dramatic impact on the success of dating profiles.
  • Make sure your profile is 100% complete. As we mentioned above, having an incomplete profile sends a bad message to other members.
  • Change up your profile. Have a friend or family member take a look at your profile to see how it reads. Do you come across as interesting? Funny? Bland? Boring? We're happy to help you as well! Contact us and we'll give you some tips to improve your profile to receive maximum responses.
  • Change your tagline. Your tagline will appear in the main search results, so creating a great one will go a long way. Consider trying different versions that are funny, engaging, cute, or quirky to catch someone's eye.
  • Make sure YOU are contacting people. The communication on BetterDate.com is a two-way street. Consider that other members might be waiting for you to make the first move. You've got nothing to lose...go out on a limb and contact someone today!
  • Expand your search criteria and radius. If you are too specific you will limit the amount of members you're exposed to.

How do I post a photo?
Since photos are crucial to your success on BetterDate.com, we offer a variety of options for posting them to your profile.
Direct Upload
The fastest way to get your photos posted is to upload them when creating your profile. If you're already logged in to BetterDate.com, click My Photos in the left navigation. On this page you'll be able to upload up to 20 photos to be included on your profile.
Email It to Us
Email us your photos as an attachment and we'll add them to your profile. Use this method if Direct Upload does not work for you. Email photos to photos@betterdate.com. Be sure to include your username and the email address associated with your account.
Send Photos via Regular Mail (snail mail)
If you were unsuccessful using the first two options, you can always send the photo in via snail mail. If you choose this option, please remember to include a note in the envelop that details your username and the email address associated with your account Mail your photos to:

What are the guidelines for posting photos?
We accept the following image formats: jpg, bmp, gif, png. If your photos are approved (remember, fun but clean), they will be posted. It shouldn't take more than 24 hours for your photo to appear on your profile. Be sure to crop your photos the way you'd like them before uploading. We reserve the right to pull any and all photos from BetterDate.com. Below are guidelines for posting photos on BetterDate.com:
  • Your primary photo must be clear and facial features must be unobstructed by items such as sunglasses or a mask.
  • Group pictures are only accepted if there is at least one picture of the member already uploaded and this picture clearly shows the member's face.
  • Pictures containing only children, pets, or celebrities are prohibited.
  • The primary photo must be an actual photo: paintings, artistic renderings and drawings of the member are permitted only as secondary photos.
  • Nude, inappropriately-dressed, provocative or pornographic photos are prohibited.
  • Vulgar symbols, gestures, gang symbols or colors are prohibited.
  • Photos that have obviously been "photoshopped" are prohibited.
  • Photos that contain personal or identifying information (names, addresses, phone numbers, etc.) are prohibited.
  • Pictures that contain a copyright notice are prohibited.
How do I delete a photo?
If you're already logged in to BetterDate.com, click My Photos in the left navigation. On this page you'll be able to select and delete photos within your profile.
How do I update a photo?
To update your photos, click My Photos in the left navigation. On this page you can add, delete or change the order of your photos as you like.
Why should I post a photo?
Online dating sites, including BetterDate.com, wouldn't exist without user photos. Most members will skip profiles that don't have a picture, and studies show users are more inclined to click on a profile if they find the image attractive. How do I change my default photo?
To update your photos, click My Photos in the left navigation. Click on the thumbnail photo to the right so the larger version appears to the left. Click on the Make Thumbnail link. You may have to log out and back in again to see the changes.

How do I search for members?
Click on Search within the top navigation. Select your preferences, a search radius, your zip code, and whether or not you want to restrict the results to only show those with photos or members that are online. Click the Search button to view your results. We recommend using a wide search radius to ensure you see a high number of results. If your initial results are limited, consider expanding your search criteria.
How do I filter out the members without photos?
On the Search page check the "Photos Online" box and click Search.
How can I refine my search results?
When you know what you want, you know what you want. To that end we've given you full control over the results you see with a large set of filtering tools. To view the full set of search filters, visit the Search page by clicking on the link in the top navigation. Then click the Click to Expand link directly next to Advanced Search. Make your search selections and click the large Search button.
Why do I want other members to know when I look at their profile or Bookmark them?
Think of it as an ice breaker. If you saw that someone had Bookmarked you and you liked what you saw, wouldn't you be more likely to send them a message? Members who are active on the site like to know when other members are checking them out or find them interesting enough to Bookmark them. It makes the community more fun, exciting, and engaging.
What does Online Now or Active Within mean?
The "Online Now/Active Within" status field indicates how recently a member has visited BetterDate.com. The "Online Now" feature allows you to see which of your fellow BetterDate.com members are online at any given moment. Generally speaking, if "Online Now" is indicated on a member's profile, it means that member has been active on the site within the last hour.
I know I'm not interested in a member. Is there any way I can remove them from results?
Absolutely. You're bound to come across members that you cross of a list of potential matches. Removing them from your results is easy to do.
How to Block Someone
When viewing a member profile, click the Block User link that appears to the far right under the Contact This User button and Send to a Friend link.
How to Undo a Block
If you'd like to see the list of those you've removed click Blocked Users in the left navigation of your member homepage. If you decide you want to give a member another chance click the Unblock User link that appears on this page.

How do I send someone a message?
We're glad you've found someone interesting on BetterDate.com..congrats! Sending messages is easy. From the member's profile page, simply click the Contact This User button that appears to the far right of their profile photo. On the Send a Message page the member's username should show up in the Send field. Please be sure to enter a Topic and Message before clicking Next. From the search results page, click the Send a Message button that appears to the far right of the user's photo.
If I email another member and they are not a subscriber, will they get my message?
When you email another member they will be notified immediately. The ability to read messages from other members is reserved for paid subscribers. This guarded privilege creates a more secure environment and helps ensure the members you communicate with on BetterDate.co are as serious in their relationship search as you are.
Why aren't members responding to my messages?
Don't get discouraged. One of the key aspects to online dating, BetterDate.com included, is managing your expectations and having patience. You might connect with someone right away, but it could also take one or several months. There could be several reasons why your messages aren't getting responses:
  • Some members choose not to respond to all messages.
  • Some members don't check their email regularly.
  • Not all members are subscribers, and only subscribers can view messages.
  • A member without a paid subscription will be notified of their new message and given the opportunity to upgrade in order to read the new message.
When someone contacts me, where does the message go and how do I respond?
If someone sends you a message it will appear in your BetterDate.com inbox and you will receive a new message notification from us to your offsite email inbox (ex: Hotmail, Yahoo! Mail, AOL Mail, etc.) To view or reply to your messages:
  1. Login to BetterDate.com
  2. Click the Messages link in the top navigation
  3. Click the message to view it or click the Reply link to send a response
Do I have to be a Subscription Member to read and reply to messages from other members?
Yes, in order to view or respond to messages within BetterDate.com you have to be a current paid subscriber.
Who can contact me?
Any member within BetterDate.com that you have not blocked.
How can I see who has contacted me?
If you are a paid BetterDate.com subscriber, visit the Messages page that is linked from the top navigation. If you not a current subscriber, you will need to upgrade your account in order view your messages and the member who sent them.
How can I see who I have contacted?
Click on Messages in the top navigation. Now click on the Sent link underneath the large Messages heading and the Write Message button. This will show you a list of the messages you've sent.
How do I block someone?
You may run into a situation where another member is sending you unwanted or inappropriate messages. To block this person from contacting you or showing up in your search results, visit their profile and click the Block User link that appears to the far right under the Contact This User button.
What happens when I block someone?
The member you block will not be able to send you any messages and they won't appear in any of your search results.
Harassment & Spam
We take harassment, spam, and other Terms & Conditions violations very, very seriously. If a member is harassing you, spamming you, or otherwise making BetterDate.com a negative experience for you, please let us know by reporting them immediately. Doing so is completely confidential, and we will deal with the problem right away so you can continue enjoying the site. To report someone, visit their profile and click on the Report link that appears to the far right.

What's the difference between a free membership and a Subscription Membership?
With a free BetterDate.com membership, you can post a profile, add photos, search and view other members' profiles, read dating advice, read messages from other members, bookmark members you're interested in, and use the Are You Interested? Tool. When you upgrade to a subscription, you can also send messages to other members, see who bookmarked you, see who viewed your profile, send virtual gifts to other members, set your profile status to private. We have subscription plans that come with a Featured Profile option as well. Why should I get a Subscription Membership?
As a Subscription Member of BetterDate.com you will have full access to all tools and communication methods within the site. I'm having trouble using my credit card. What should I do?
When making your purchase on the order page, the transaction is not complete until a confirmation appears. Wait for the confirmation before visiting another page or closing your browser window. Feel free to call our customer care team at 1-888-744-9966. Why isn't my billing information being accepted when I enter it? There may be a few reasons why you can't enter your billing information:
  • Incorrect or invalid credit card number
  • Expired credit card
  • Credit card over limit
  • Incorrect or invalid billing information

Why was my subscription automatically renewed?
Uninterrupted access to potential matches is very important to our subscribers. If you are using a credit card, you are charged immediately for the subscription plan you selected. When that plan ends, we will automatically renew your Premium Membership each month at the same rate as previously selected. This will continue until you select either a different subscription plan or if you choose to end your subscription before it begins a new billing cycle. We hope that auto-renewal doesn't come as a surprise, as it is on the subscription page that each subscriber agrees to when signing up. When will my Subscription expire?
To find out when your subscription expires, go to your My Account Details page.
If I remove my profile, will it end my Subscription?
No. Once you purchase a subscription, it will remain active for the remainder of your subscription plan.
Can I put my Subscription on hold?
No. Once you purchase a subscription, it will remain active for the remainder of your subscription plan.
Can I still read and respond to messages if I cancel my Subscription Membership?
If you cancel your Subscription Membership, you will not be refunded the unused portion of membership fees paid for your subscription term. However, all the membership benefits remain in effect until the term expires. For example, if you purchase a one-month subscription on June 1st and cancel on June 21st, you may continue to send email and instant messages until the end of June.
Can I still send email and instant messages if I cancel my subscription today?
If you cancel your Subscription Membership in the middle of your subscription plan, you can continue to use all Subscription Member benefits until your subscription plan ends. For example, if you subscribed for one month on June 1st and you cancelled your subscription on June 21st, you could continue to send email and instant messages through June 30th.
If I bought a 6-month subscription and cancel after one month, can I get a refund for the remaining five months?
No, we do not prorate subscriptions. If you fall in love and cancel after your first month, your Subscription Membership will stay active for the rest of the subscription plan.
